Industry–academia partnerships connect business challenges with academic expertise and student learning. They can create opportunities for applied research, project-based learning, faculty engagement and talent development.
Start by identifying a shared objective and a realistic activity. A company might offer a project brief, while an institution provides faculty guidance and student participation.
Agree on responsibilities, timelines, resources, confidentiality, intellectual property and the expected outputs. Ensure that the activity is appropriate for students' experience and that any sensitive company information is handled properly.
Review the collaboration after delivery. Assess what was learned, whether the expected output was produced and whether both sides see value in continuing.
